SUMMARY:Dave Kelly Band
DESCRIPTION:The Dave Kelly Band\n \nThe Dave Kelly Band (DKB) was formed in 1982 when The Blues Band had\ndecided to split up for a while. There have been various line-ups over the 39\nyears\, three albums under the DKB name plus Dave’s many solo albums which\nhave also featured band members. \nThe DKB has always had an eclectic spread of material outside of the blues and\nwill play a selection of blues and soul favourites\, maybe some country\, plus a number of Dave’s own\ncompositions. If venues permit… the dancing is encouraged ! \nThe musicians are:\nDave Kelly: lead vocals\, slide\, electric & acoustic guitars. Over his 58 year professional career Dave has had the pleasure and honour to tour with and/or back on TV shows; Howlin Wolf\, John Lee Hooker\, Son House\, Buddy Guy\, Lowell Fulson\, Freddie King\, The Allmann Brothers Band\, James Burton among others. \nLou Stonebridge: keyboards & vocals. Lou was in the very first incarnation of\nThe DKB. He had produced ‘The Official Bootleg’ and ‘Ready’ for The Blues\nBand in 1980 – their first two albums. Originally with Paladin\, he later was with\nMcGuinness Flint before concentrating on production. \nPete Emery: lead guitar. Pete was originally in the Bristol group ‘The Deep’. A\nband which was regularly plundered for musicians by London ‘signed’ bands –\nregularly by The John Dummer Blues Band and The Groundhogs. Pete joined\nThe JDBB in 1970 and then became partner of Dave’s sister Jo-Anne Kelly\, both\nmusical and life. He has his own very distinctive style and is a unique guitarist.\nHe has played with The Blues Band on several occasions and The Collister/Kelly\nband \nHomer Kelly-Tarrant: bass guitar and vocals. Dave’s youngest son\, Homer has\njust finished his degree at Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) where\nhe gained a distinction for his live performance. He had toured twice with Dave\n& Christine Collister as bass player and backing vocalist. A multi instrumentalist\nand song writer\, he’s the second Kelly offspring to enter the music business. \nSam Kelly: drums and vocals. Sam\, Dave’s eldest son started drumming when\nhe was ten\, a disciple of Levon Helm. In 1991\,when he was 17 he deputised for\nRob Townsend with The Blues Band as Rob had injured his wrist\, slotting in at\nvery short notice. He toured with The Blues Band for the last two years of their existence as Rob Townsend was unwell. Sam has played with various other bands \, including Gerry Marsden\, Peyote Train\, the folk rock outfit Circulus\, and Tom Robinson.

SUMMARY:Gary Fletcher Blues Band
DESCRIPTION:The Gary Fletcher Blues Band\nWe are very pleased to have them back after such a great evening last year. \nThe band are:\nGary – acoustic and slide guitars\, banjo and ukelele\nTom Leary – (Lindisfarne\, Feast of Fiddles\, etc) violin\nAlan Glen – (Yardbirds\, Nine Below Zero etc) harmonica\nAndy Billups – (The Hamsters) bass\nNick Ritchie – (Canto\, Mud) guitars\nSam Kelly – (Tom Robinson\, Circulus) drums \nHere Gary plays his own songs on acoustic guitar. They are not a blues band playing blues by aging white Brits\, instead you have a collection of strong songs performed with taste\, intelligence and dignity with the acoustic rather than the electric guitar to the fore. There’s a nice sense of space and atmosphere throughout. \nWebsite

SUMMARY:John Verity
DESCRIPTION:John Verity \nOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA \nOne of the most consistent performers on the blues rock circuit today\, having honed his craft over more than 60 years on the circuit at every level. \nBorn in West Yorkshire he played in many bands in the area and beyond before moving to Florida. Whilst there he opened for Jimi Hendrix\, Janis Joplin\, Mountain and others\, then on his return to the UK\, taking a somewhat different direction this time as front man with Argent. When Argent disbanded John spent time primarily in the studio\, producing\, recording\, and guesting with\, among many others\, Ringo Starr\, The Zombies\, Smokie\, Charlie\, Motorhead\, and Saxon. \nJump forward a few years and John is now back out on the road with his own band and experiencing a musical renaissance. \nThe John Verity Band currently features:\nJohn Verity – Guitar/vocals\nChris Mansbridge – Drums\nRoger Inniss – Bass \n“And it would always have been difficult to follow the next act\, the triumphant John Verity Band. Verity is best known for his stint as the frontman of Argent in the 1970s\, but that was only a brief interruption in a 50-year solo career.” \n“You are left under no illusion that you are in the hands of a proper musician and vocalist who would have no problem filling a stadium\, packing out any club and bringing a festival audience to their feet. Go see him!” \nwebsite

DESCRIPTION:Toby Walker \nReturning to Blues Bar Tring\, acoustic guitar supremo from the USA\, Toby Walker! \n \nInternationally and nationally acclaimed Toby Walker from the USA has been hailed as an award winning\, roots music fingerstyle guitar virtuoso and songwriter. Blending the styles of blues\, ragtime\, country\, bluegrass and old-time jazz\, Toby Walker has developed his own style and as such\, received numerous awards\, including being the 1st place recipient of the International Blues Challenge Award in Memphis and the New York Music Award for best instrumental CD. Toby Walker has also been inducted into the New York Blues Hall Of Fame. His show includes some amusing songs and great stories along with guitar playing that captivates audiences. \n“If he doesn’t get them with his phenomenal guitar playing or catchy songs\, he gets them with his wonderful stories. True entertainers have an engaging spirit that puts a smile on your face. Arlo Guthrie has it. David Bromberg has it. And so does Toby. ” John Platt – WFUV \n“Flat out… you have to hear this great musician… I’m blown away” Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna and the Jefferson Airplane \n“A fingerpicking guitar virtuoso” Happy Traum \n“Not only can Toby play all styles of the blues\, but he’s a remarkable story-teller as well. And you’ll be surprised by what else he’ll pull out of his hat to please his audiences. He may come out with an arrangement of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ or ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ followed by an Irish fiddle tune medley (on guitar)\, a couple of rousing singalongs and top it all off with his arrangement of the Allman Brothers tune ‘Little Martha\,’ Whipping Post’ or even a traditional bluegrass tune.” He takes the audience on one heck of a ride and leaves them smiling all the way home!!” John Sheridan – The Sunday Times. \nWebsite

SUMMARY:Geraint Watkins & The Mosquitoes
DESCRIPTION:Geraint Watkins & The Mosquitoes \n \nWith a brand new 10” vinyl album entitled “Here and There” hot off the presses in September 2024\, this is a welcome return to the venue for Geraint Watkins and the Mosquitoes – which these days is an exciting quartet including Oliver Darling (guitar/vocals)\, Paul Riley (bass)\, Malcolm Mills (drums). \nFor so many years a keystone of the bands of Nick Lowe\, Van Morrison\, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings\, Dave Edmunds and countless more\, Watkins is also a revered creator of his own sublime music\, much of which has already been perfectly captured in a handful of solo albums. These days\, he performs this material with his band – The Mosquitoes. \nBob Dylan – proclaimed himself a Watkins fan by playing two solo cuts on his Theme Time Radio Hour saying (without a hint of irony) that “Geraint Watkins is my favourite English piano player.” \nWatkins was a member of noted British bands Juice on the Loose and Red Beans & Rice and following a move to London with the latter\, he soon found himself on the “Be Stiff Route 78” tour as part of Micky Jupp’s band. Shortly afterwards in 1979\, Andy Fairweather Low produced Watkins’ first album for the Vertigo label. Session work for producer Stuart Colman followed which led to him joining Shakin’ Stevens’ band before going on to record and play live with Dave Edmunds and many others including Eric Clapton\, Paul McCartney\, Mark Knopfler\, Dr. Feelgood\, Rory Gallagher\, The Blues Band\, The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, Stray Cats\, Carl Perkins\, John Wesley Harding\, Tom Jones\, Roger Daltrey and John Martyn. In addition to his touring and recording with Nick Lowe\, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings and Van Morrison\, he somehow managed to keep The Balham Alligators stomping for fifteen years too. \nMosquitoes on Facebook\nGeraint on Facebook\nWebsite

SUMMARY:Martin Harley
DESCRIPTION:Martin Harley \n \nMartin Harley created a deep impression on the acoustic blues roots and Americana scene but these days he takes county blues riffs to the electric bottleneck slide guitar\, served up with sweet vocal harmonies over the driving rhythms.\nIf success can be measured by growing global demand to attend Martin’s dynamic live performances then perhaps his touring schedule is proof of that. \nMartin has been making music and touring the world for over two decades. His sound has never been more down to earth. Exploring roots\, blues and slide guitar in a style The Guardian referred to as ‘Spellbinding’.\nHe has released eight albums to date\, four recorded on home soil and four across the Atlantic in Texas and Nashville. \nWebsite

SUMMARY:Ma Bessie After Hours Show - Friday
DESCRIPTION:Ma Bessie After Hours Show \nThis gig is on a FRIDAY \nMa Bessie After Hours Show with Julia Titus\n \nWith a passion for the Empress of the Blues\, Julia Titus started to perform as Ma Bessie in 2015\, sharing the music of Bessie Smith and her contemporaries with a new generation. Mixing Julia’s rich\, warm vocal sound with a dynamic group of musicians that look as well as sound the part\, Ma Bessie combines classic blues and jazz tunes from the inter-war years with a selection of original songs and hand-picked covers from the last 50 years of popular music. \nDuring the prohibition era\, artists like Bessie Smith would often have their regular job performing shows but when the work is done\, they often attended a late night space where they could just let go. Building on her family-friendly Prohibition Party\, Ma Bessie decided to follow her idols and put together her very own ‘After Hours’ show. \nFeaturing lyrically bawdy songs such as Kitchen Man\, Take Me For A Buggy Ride\, Whip It To A Jelly and You Gotta Give Me Some\, Ma Bessie ‘After Hours’ is a more daring show that is definitely only suitable for over-18s. If you’ve seen Ma Bessie before\, this will be right up your street. \nIf this is your first taste\, you will get to see a more cheeky Ma Bessie\, and it will definitely leave you wanting more! \nFacebook
